Rules and positive expectations
Here at Linda Verde Dual Language Academy, we focus on creating a welcoming learning environment where our dual language learners feel supported and encouraged to grow in both languages. In my classroom, I want students to feel safe, respected, and comfortable participating, making mistakes, and learning from one another. Our classroom is a community where we work together and help each other succeed.
Our core classroom values
We follow five fundamental commitments to ensure everyone thrives:
Be respectful: Use kind words, listen to others, and respect different ideas, languages, cultures, and classroom property.
Be responsible: Follow directions, come prepared to learn, take care of materials, and take responsibility for your choices.
Be ready to learn: Participate actively, stay focused, ask thoughtful questions, and always try your best.
Be safe: Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself and make choices that protect everyone.
Be kind and helpful: Include others, offer support to classmates, and grow together as a caring community.
Celebrating effort and growth
I celebrate students through meaningful verbal praise and by recognizing their effort and positive choices. Students can earn rewards for following our ROAR expectations, completing their work, helping others, and demonstrating personal growth.
True learning goes beyond academics. We value and honor kindness, responsibility, and determination, frequently coming together as an entire classroom to encourage and support each other's milestones.
Supportive guidance and home partnership
When a student struggles with an expectation, our focus is always on teaching and redirection first. I provide gentle reminders, hold individual conferences to reflect on better choices, and provide additional practice or natural consequences when necessary. For persistent challenges, I collaborate directly with families to find the best solutions together.
Parents and guardians play an essential role by discussing our classroom expectations at home and reinforcing respect, responsibility, and kindness. Consistency between school and home empowers students to become confident, thoughtful members of our community.
